Barbara Ann Cherry Evans, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and faith.
Born on December 22, 1937, to the late Tom and Addie Towns Cherry, Barbara was raised with strong values that guided her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Frank Cherry and Thomas Cherry.
Barbara married the love of her life, Carris Evans, in 1957, and together they built a life centered on family and devotion. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, Tammy Evans Murdaugh, and her son, Ricky (Renae) Evans.
She cherished her role as “Grandma” to Drew (Katy) Murdaugh, Kayla (Matt Yawn) Murdaugh, Rancelyn Evans, and Roxy Evans, and as “Great-Grandma” to Lily Bales, Ivy Bales, and Daisy Murdaugh. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took pride in each of their accomplishments and milestones.
Barbara dedicated 30 years of her life to her work at Oxford Shirt Company in Alamo, where she was known for her strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, she found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles, shopping, and growing flowers. She was a great cook and seamstress. She found beauty in nurturing both plants and people.
Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She lived it daily through kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love for others.
Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her dedication to her family, and the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, at Erick Cemetery in Alamo, GA. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour before the service.
