Cherry Poland Smith, age 81, of Alamo, GA, passed away at her home Wednesday morning, April 27, 2022. She was born in Cleburne County, AL to the late Milo Adjlion and Avis Webb Poland on November 9, 1940. Mrs. Smith worked for many years with her husband running their family businesses and fifteen years as a secretary at World Outreach Church in McRae, GA, but without a doubt, her favorite job was raising their four children. She was a member of the Alamo First Baptist Church. She was quite the artist and thoroughly enjoyed painting, as well as sewing, gardening, and baking. She will especially be remembered for her delicious cream corn, sweet potato casserole, and zucchini bread. Her gentle spirit and sweet smile will forever be missed by those that knew and loved her.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband: John Roger Smith; four children: Kevin (Holly) Smith, Jennifer (David) Roberts, Eric (Laura) Smith, and Laura (Ronnie) Leyland; grandchildren: Amelia Smith, Sanders (Jayne) Smith, John Roberts, Jesse Smith, Jared Smith, Alese (Hunter) Meeks, Jonathan Leyland, Joshua (Hannah) Leyland, and Jeremiah Leyland; great-grandchildren: Harper Smith, Jensen Meeks, Arlan Meeks, and Lucas Leyland; brother: Kerry (Doris) Poland; sisters: Sylvia Bonnar, Joyce (Tony) Bright, and Donna (Gene) Hosford; brother-in-law: Robert (Mary) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Alan Poland; and one granddaughter: Grace Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Alamo First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Alamo City Cemetery. A visitation will take place for the family to receive friends one hour prior to the service.
