Deborah (Hobbs) Clark Obituary

Deborah Hobbs Clark, born August 27, 1951, in Waycross, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Hubert A. Hobbs and Mary Kate Wyatt Hobbs.

A graduate of Ware County High School, College of Coastal Georgia, and Armstrong State College, Deborah built a distinguished and meaningful career in journalism, education, and community communications. She began her work in the field as the Community Editor at the Waycross Journal-Herald, later serving as a news aide at The Washington Post. She went on to serve as a reporter and city editor at The Brunswick News, where she became known for her thoughtful writing and dedication to accuracy. Deborah also worked as Coordinator of Continuing Education Marketing and Program Development at the College of Coastal Georgia, supporting important educational initiatives across the region.

At the time of her passing, Deborah was the regional editor at The Vidalia Advance, where she was highly respected as a feature writer for both the newspaper and its magazine. She had a deep passion for supporting her community and keeping the public informed about local current events, a commitment reflected in every story she told. Her clear voice, compassionate outlook, and devotion to truthful reporting made a lasting impact on colleagues and readers alike.

Deborah was a faithful member of Shiloh Methodist Church, where she enjoyed worship, fellowship, playing the piano, and serving alongside her church family.

Outside of her professional life, Deborah found great joy in the simple, beautiful things of life. She loved spending time with her family and was happiest when surrounded by those she cherished most. She also loved gardening, tending to her roses and nurturing a yard full of beautiful flowers that reflected her gentle nature and appreciation for beauty.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Leslie Clark; her children, Erin Rivenbark (Lane), Joshua Clark (Stephanie), Kelly Clark, and Sue Odenbrett (Vince); her grandchildren, Ronnie Clark, Summer Clark, Ruben Benitez, Lilly Clark, Nola Rivenbark, and Mae Rivenbark; her great-grandchildren, Autumn Priest, Aurora Clark, Lee Clark, and August Clark; four siblings, Hugh Hobbs (Bobbie), Judy Meeks, Mark Hobbs, and Holly Thompson (Randy); and several nieces and nephews.  She cherished each of them deeply and found her greatest joy in their presence.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert A. Hobbs and Mary Kate Wyatt Hobbs, and by her beloved son, Nicholas J. Clark.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generosity, her quiet strength, and her unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and her craft. Deborah’s legacy—as a journalist, wife, mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend—will continue to touch countless lives.
