John Hiles Henry

Mr. John Hiles Henry, age 81, of Glenwood, GA, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, after an extended illness.  Mr. Henry was born July 6, 1941, in Emanuel County, GA, to the late Joe C. and Minie Henry. 

He was a resident of Wheeler County for over sixty years and a member of Glenwood Church of God. Mr. Henry was dedicated and hard-working, and he spent most of his adult years in the woods logging. He enjoyed fishing on the river with his family and friends and always loved a good fish fry. Cutting grass, hunting, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was how he spent much of his time. Gardening was, without a doubt, one of his favorite pastimes. Mr. Henry worked tirelessly preparing his and his family’s garden, even in his last days. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Mr. Henry is survived by his children: John Henry (Janet) of Glenwood, Lynn Smith (Randy) of Swainsboro, Lisa Scarboro of Swainsboro, Carlene Lyles (Jerry) of Soperton, Nita Seabolt (Walt) of Alamo, Theresa Carey (Tim) of Glenwood, and Timothy Poole of Glenwood; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Velma Poole Henry, and fourteen brothers and sisters.    

Funeral service for Mr. Henry will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Glenwood Church of God, with interment following in the Edge Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Glenwood Church of God.
