John Thomas "J.T." Pickle Obituary
Mr. John Thomas “J.T.” Pickle, age 98, of Alamo, GA, passed away on February 3, 2025, at Viva Senior Living in Albany, GA. Mr. Pickle was born in Monroe County, MS, to the late Emmie Evans Pickle and Carlos Carl Pickle on September 15, 1926. He moved to Georgia at fourteen with his family so his father could work in forestry, where pine trees were abundant. He graduated from Wheeler County High and served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Pickle married his late wife, Vernease Gibbs Pickle, in 1947, and they soon moved to work for a short time in California. It wasn’t very long before they returned to Alamo to raise their family, and Mr. Pickle continued in the family business as a self-employed forester. He later designed and built a portable sawmill. His design was unique and efficient, and the requests from companies and individuals all over the world resulted in a successful endeavor. He once shipped one of his sawmills to Chile, South America, and soon followed himself on a mission in a remote area to oversee and assist in building the first church ever constructed in that region. Mr. Pickle’s sawmills still operate throughout the U.S. and numerous other countries today. He loved gospel music, playing the piano, and singing in church. Mr. Pickle’s was a life well lived, and he faithfully served his Lord and fellow man.
Mr. Pickle is survived by two children: John Pickle (Becky) of Fortson and Connie Couey (Murray) of Franklinton, LA; sister: Wynell Perdue (James) of Alamo; grandchildren: Mercedes Aldridge (Brad) of Leesburg, Tobey Shirah (Jay) of Leesburg, Casandra Molinere (Shane) of Franklinton, LA, and Brandon Pickle of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren: Sadie Aldridge, Shelby Shirah, Kayla Couey, Jorden Romine, and Delaney Darnell; great-great-granddaughter: Josephine Hunt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Diane Pickle; son, David Pickle; granddaughter, Alice Couey; and siblings, Eldridge, Quinton, Carl, David, Jimmy Ray, and Jane Pickle.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Alamo Methodist Church. A celebration service in honor of the life Mr. Pickle lived will begin at 11:00 a.m., with interment following in the Alamo City Cemetery.
