Joyce Anderson Obituary

Joyce T Anderson
August 14, 1934 – November 5, 2023

Sunday, November 5, 2023, Joyce (Joy) Miriam Towns Anderson, loving wife (husband James Charles
Anderson, deceased), mother of 4 daughters, grandmother of 8, and great-grandmother of 18, passed away at
the age of 89, in Boerne, TX. She grew up in Glenwood, GA, and resided in Stockbridge, GA and McDonough,
GA for many decades before recently moving to Boerne, TX to live with her daughter, Lynn, & granddaughter,
Kristy and her family.
Joy was born on August 14, 1934, to Maude and Jack Towns of Glenwood, GA. She was the youngest of 7
children with 5 sisters (Willa Mae, Addis, Gussie, Annice and Hilda) and 1 brother (Edward), all of whom have
preceded her in death. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Joy and Charles married in February 1953 with Charles passing away in 1988. Their 4 daughters are Deniece
Anderson (deceased), Lynn Anderson Williams, Janis Anderson Spinks (spouse - Tommy Spinks) and Ellane

Anderson Barnes (spouse - Glynn Barnes). The love of Joy’s life was her 8 grandchildren and 18 great-
grandchildren. To her dying day she was their constant encourager and prayer warrior. Her 8 grandchildren

are Art (Elizabeth) Williams, Nancy Mays, Kristy (Eric) Hightower, Clifford (Jessica) Mays, Alicia (Nathan)
Phillips, Janna (Bryan) Kelly, Andrea (Brad) Vomacka, and Craig (Megan) Spinks. Her 18 great grandchildren
are Selah Williams, Artis Williams, Darci Hightower, Daniel Hightower, Abbie Hightower, Isaiah Hightower,
Joel Hightower, Joey Hightower, Kaytlin Mays, Sully Phillips, Ellerie Phillips, Oliver Phillips, Emma Kelly,
Remi Kelly, Noah Kelly, Titus Spinks, Eiley Spinks, and Jovie Spinks. MaMa Joy will be missed by all; however,
she left an undeniable legacy that will live on in her family she loved so dearly.
Joy loved people and loved showing people that she cared through her cooking/baking. She was an excellent
southern cook and was always excited to share her recipes with others. Although she spent many years unable
to stand well or walk because of Multiple Sclerosis, she always found ways to work in her kitchen cooking for
others. She also loved southern gospel music. Most days, walking into her home you would find delicious
aromas of something good cooking and either her gospel music playing in the background or in season, her
beloved Braves on TV!
She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and shared her faith oaen with friends, family and even strangers. Many
people have said that she did indeed “live up to her name....JOY”. We know that as she drew her final breath
here on earth, she exhaled in Heaven with Jesus, standing straight and without pain and heard Jesus say “Well
done, faithful servant. Welcome HOME.”
