Markey Hallman Harris, age 89, of Glenwood, GA, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, at Fairview Park Hospital after an extended illness. She was born on June 17, 1936, in Glenville, Georgia, to the late Onis and Myrtice Hallman. A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, Markey lived a life rooted in family, faith, and caring for others. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, dedicating her time to the care of the sick and needy with the utmost compassion. She worked at different local hospitals early in her career and retired after many years of public service at the Wheeler County Health Department. Her love for the land and country living was evident in her many hobbies. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, growing beautiful flowers, canning vegetables and jams, mowing her lawn, farming, tending to her cows, and cooking for her family and friends. Known for her strong work ethic and servant’s heart, she found great joy in helping others and caring for those in need. Markey was a faithful member of White Springs Baptist Church and will be remembered for her dedication and service. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Markey is survived by her children: Andy Harris of Watkinsville, David (Dava) Harris of Flowery Branch, and Teresa (Shawn) Myers of Bradenton, FL; and her cherished grandchildren: Haley Harris, Andrew Harris, Jordan Harris, Kristen (Vincent) Scola, and Graham (Abby) Myers. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jerrell Harris; her parents, Onis and Myrtice Hallman; and her siblings, Mickey Hallman, Lindell Hallman, and Gloria Hallman.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Towns Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at White Springs Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
