Randall Gibbs Obituary

Randall Gibbs, age 82, of Glenwood, GA, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born December 19, 1941, to the late Inez Stone.  He graduated from Fitzgerald High School, Brewton Parker College, Georgia Southern College, and Fort Valley University.  He retired from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, where he worked in several different capacities throughout his tenure. Mr. Gibbs served as a pastor for over fifty years and as a chaplain for Serenity Hospice.  In his younger years, he was a long-distance runner and even ran in the Peachtree Road Race several times.    Mr. Gibbs enjoyed playing golf in his free time, but his favorite pastime was being with his family and friends.  He will be forever remembered for his servant’s heart, his joyful disposition, and the love he showed to all those he encountered.  


Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife: Reba Clark Gibbs; daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Lynn Pope of Glenwood; granddaughters: Randa Pope and Lucy Pope; brother: Tommy Gibbs (Tina) of Fitzgerald; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents: Charlie and Beulah Stone.


The family will be receiving friends on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Towns Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Stuckey Baptist Church with Rev. Randell Tarpley officiating.  Interment will follow in Edge Cemetery, Glenwood, GA.  Donations can be made to Stuckey Baptist Church in lieu of sending flowers.
